Tell me, have you ever been to the Crimea? There is everything there: mountains, sea, steppe. Climb the mountains and you you will feel sorry for a man who has never been there. So gorgeous it is. And behind the mountain, the sea mingles with the sky, both are blue, one surpassing the other in the blueness. The people of the Crimea are very fond of their land. Wherever a Crimean finds himself, he is sure to say: there is no place like Crimea. Such is our Crimean Land. Only stay, don't die...
Old Crimean legend
The old legend is true: there is no place like Crimea! This plot of land is the only one of its kind (just 26.000 square km) in the whole world, where mosaics of natural landscapes, historic events and people's fates are so skillfully interwoven. In the caressing sun, mountains, places and fortresses, in the sea and friendly smiles of local people there is something so appealing, that having once visited the Crimea is enigmatic and hard to explain to anybody else. It only can be soul-felt and heart-perceived...
Any newcomer to the Crimea is sure to find here a small portion of his own homeland. On the peninsula, Nature has brought together landscapes of alpine meadows and American dersets with mesas, boundless Asian steppes and swamped Middle Russian fields. Here one can find impassable "taiga" wind-fallen trees and meagre landscapes of polar tundras, sand spits of Baltic countries and steep coastal slopes of Sicily. No wonder, it was here that cinematographers used to come in search of "foreign nature".
The Crimean
peninsula is situated in the southern part of Ukraine and juts out into
the Black Sea. Crimea is one of the most fascinating corners of
Ukraine, with the most varied scenery and climate, the most ancient
history, and the greatest opportunities for tourism. The sub-tropical
climate of Crimea's South Coast is near-Mediterranean, making Crimea's
beaches a prime holiday destination for millions of Ukrainians and
Russians and growing numbers of Foreign Tourists each year. Health and
Holiday Resorts are abound on the peninsula, which is famous for its
mineral waters as well as its wines. Just a few kilometers from the
Black Sea,the Crimean Mountains rise to 1500 m above sea level.
Crimea's
high season is July and August. However, it is generally warm from
mid-April to the end of October. September is a perfect time to enjoy
the resorts with less crowds, and October brings wonderful Autumn
colour to the peninsula. Even during winter months which bring
occasional snowfalls there are usually periods of sunshine every day.
Spring in Crimea begins in early April and is especially scenic, with
Crimea's wide variety of flora all in bloom. Summer itself can be
scorching hot at times, especially when there is no wind
The
Black Sea is not as warm as some seas, but the water reaches 22-25° C
during summer months and is often warm enough to swim in till late
October making Crimea an ideal tourism destination.
The air temperatures rise into the 30's during the summer months.
Crimea's
most famous resort town is Yalta, which became a prestigious vacation
destination in 19th century Tsarist Russia after the first road was
built from Simferopol. Sevastopol,Balaklava,Alushta,Sudak,Yevpatoriya,
Koktebel, and Feodosia are also well-known resorts. Sevastopol on the
west end of the peninsula is more of a regular city than a resort; it
is a navy town with shipyards and the headquarters of Russia's Black
Sea Fleet. Sudak has some awesome sights, and its beach front area has
been very nicely developed and is ideal for holidays. Yevpatoriya and
Saky on Crimea's west coast are known for their soft sand beaches - a
Crimea holiday maker's dream.
Resorts of Crimea
While each Crimean resort town has its unique set of sights and they
are all alike in certain ways — there is always a beachfront area full
of restaurants, discotheques, hot dog stands, musicians, jugglers,
caricaturists, "find out how powerful your punch is" stands, and locals
selling everything from trinkets made in China to fresh milk. If you
enjoy hanging out at crowded beaches in the daytime and having fun at
night, these Crimean Holiday Resorts are for you. You'd probably enjoy
spending a couple days in each town as you move down the Crimean coast
during your holiday.
If
you'd like more solitude, Crimea has plenty of that to offer too. There
are hundreds of secluded health resorts and hundreds of kilometres of
undeveloped coastal areas. Here you may come across folks who spend the
entire summer living in caves by the beach, groups that spend weeks
practicing yoga or meditation in remote corners of the peninsula, and
of course nudists who have congregated in Crimea since Soviet times.
Adventures of Crimea
Crimea's incredibly varied terrain and scenery provides wonderful
opportunities for all kinds of outdoor recreation — mountain
hiking, cycling, mountain biking, horseback riding, spelunking, rock
climbinghang-gliding, windsurfing, jet skiing, and even snowskiing. We
at 'Holidays In Crimea' will very happily organise all your fun and
entertainment for you
The Crimean Mountains and Cave Cities
The Crimean Mountains are home to magnificent caves, forests of beech,
oak, pine, juniper, and endemic species, windswept mountain plateaus,
called yayly, and curious "cave cities" from the Middle Ages as can be
seen from viewing our
photo gallery.
The mountains are most accessible from Simferopol and the old Tatar
town of Bakhchisaray, but you can also use an aerial cable car that
goes from Miskhor (between Alupka and Yalta) to Ai-Petri Mountain at
1200 m above sea level.
Crimea's World Famous Wines
The oldest of the the Ukrainian wineries is Massandra located in the South Crimea.
More than 110 years Massandra has been producing fine wines and has won international acclaim for their
exceptional quality.
The
winery was built in 1894 – 1897 near Yalta, Crimea. The subtropical air
climate of the region and the protective shields of mountain chains
create unique conditions for the production of high quality fortified
and dessert wines, which combined with the extraordinary architectural
merit of the cellars, have earned Massandra a position as one of
Ukraine's nationally important sites. The winery is producing a wide
range of sweet and fortified wine including such famous types as
Sherry, Madeira, Port, Marsala, Tokay and Muscats. Its Collection is
one of the largest collections of fine and rare wines in the world,
estimated at over 1 million bottles, of various types and vintages
which are recorded into the Guinness Book of Records.
Since
1991 the Massandra winery has gained tremendous international
recognition through participation in four auctions at Sotheby’s and
presented to the world its highlights, such as Chateau d’Yquem 1840,
Muscat Lunel 1848, Madeira Ribeiro Secco 1837 and the unique Sherry de
la Frontera 1775, a bottle of which was sold for 50 000 USD at
